Meet Phoenix Managing Partner Ruth Lyndon, Solicitor, Legal & Compliance Recruitment
At Phoenix, we firmly believe that recruitment is a professional service - consultative, professional, value-add and solutions-focused.

Our search consultants are experts in professional services careers - many of whom are professionally qualified and have worked in global advisory firms.

So, why choose Phoenix? Meet our Phoenix Family to find out more...

1. Tell us a bit about yourself - what's your background?

I am a "Big 5" trained Solicitor and practiced as a Funds Lawyer in Dublin for a number of years with A&L Goodbody and Maples. I then made the very different and, I like to think, bold move into recruitment!

I joined Phoenix as Managing Partner earlier this year and, along with my fellow Managing Partner Ed Rossiter, I have responsibility for the strategic vision and operation of the business. I am also responsible for Phoenix's Legal and Compliance practice.

2. Why recruitment?

This is a question I am asked quite a lot given my career story!

As a lawyer, I found that I most enjoyed my role when out from behind the desk interacting with clients and developing those relationships or attending industry events, doing business development and networking. Anyone who knows me knows that talking is not something I struggle with...or typing, clearly!

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the technical legal nitty-gritty and understanding the whys and wherefores. Plus, I still LOVE to ask questions and I'm very fond of a good Post-It - those Monica-esque traits are here to stay! However, I always had a niggling thought that maybe there was a different profession or role out there for me which would better marry my legal training and market knowledge with my characteristics and quirks - i.e. chatty, people-orientated, inquisitive, resilient, persistent.

Recruitment just kept coming into my head as something to explore. I eventually started listening to my gut, did my homework and after some deep soul-searching (I highly recommend Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers) and many conversations with family and friends, I made the leap.

Over five years later, here I am - Managing Partner of Phoenix and really enjoying it. Moral of the story? Always trust your gut!

3. What makes the #PhoenixFamily different?

As cheesy as this might sound, we're family.

In other words, the calibre, professionalism, personability and genuineness of my colleagues. Everyone shares the same vision and we come into work every day with a positive determination to achieve it.

Our vision is simple - we are a specialist search firm that offers our clients and candidates a professional, value-add, relationship-based recruitment service, and our team members a high-performing, supportive, positive work environment that celebrates wins, big or small.

4. What do you consider your biggest achievement to date?

As a new first time mum, my baby girl Grace.

Professionally, there are a few but my highlights are:

  1. Qualifying as a solicitor

  2. Making a career change

  3. Honestly, helping to make Phoenix what it is today

5. What's the best piece of advice you've been given that you share with our #PhoenixPeople?

As I said, trust your gut - it is often right!

It sounds simple, but it can be surprisingly hard to do at times. However, it's served me well over the years and I think the older you get the more confident you become in trusting yourself and your instincts.
