Managing Director - Technology M&A

Role of the Managing Director

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Director looking to make the step-up, or Managing Director for its Technology sector practice in its Shanghai or Hong Kong office:

  • Originate and execute M&A transactions in the Technology sector in China

  • Develop and maintain relationships with senior decision makers at the Chairman/CEO and Partner/MD levels

  • Lead and manage a sector team in China and coordinate cross-border deal activities with other offices in the sector

  • Lead sector-based coordination with strategic partner sector teams in US/EU

Main Responsibilities

A successful candidate will support deal teams with a wide variety of tasks around our M&A

advisory mandates particularly in the Technology sector:

  • Leading deal teams

  • Positioning the business in competitive pitches

  • Client, target, and counterparty management

  • Team strategy and process design and implementation

  • Management of due diligence and negotiation process

  • Overall responsibility for the client relationship and deal

  • Effectively and efficiently mentoring bankers within the business

  • Monitoring industry trends and leading sector-based communication with clients

  • Developing a well-qualified, targeted pipeline of deal prospects

  • Networking with industry contacts, lawyers, and advisors to source new business

Essential (‘Core’) Competencies

  • 12 – 15 years of experience in Investment Banking, private equity and/or IT services company

  • A track record of originating, executing, and closing M&A transactions in an advisory capacity in China, Asia and internationally especially from the sell side.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Deep knowledge and expertise in the Technology sector

  • Strong quantitative and accounting skills

  • Skilled at managing and originating relationships with clients in the IT/IT enable services (Technology, Software, Tech enabled services, Tech infrastructure) – ability to earn senior client trust

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic, a team player, organized and attention to detail

  • Willingness to travel to Europe and the USA on deals if needed.
