Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and successful delivery of all legal and regulatory projects in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

  • Advise and manage all relevant day-to-day legal operational risks for the UK business.

  • Continuously promote and embed the organisation’s legal and regulatory risks management policy across business units and projects as appropriate. 

  • Actively drive appropriate internal legal and regulatory risk management cultures and behaviours.

  • Provide clear, pragmatic technical  legal and regulatory advice to the organisation regarding the interpretation and application of the relevant supervisory authorities’ regulatory requirements.

  • Correspond and successfully build relationships with relevant supervisory authorities as required. Prepare, submit and manage any relevant regulatory authorisation applications and/or submissions, acting as the organisation’s point of contact.

  • Act as the single point of contact and accountability for all transactional and project based legal, and governance requirements.

  • Review, monitor and ensure correct implementation of and adherence to all relevant legal and regulatory developments / regulations and/or Codes of Practice which apply to the UK business. 

  • Build, foster and maintain positive relationships with relevant government, regulatory and industry bodies. 

  • Build, promote and foster relationships across the wider organisation across-functions acting as trusted legal advisor. 

  • Advise on a variety of legal issues as they arise e.g. data protection, cyber-crime, corporate governance, employment-related issues.

  • Manage relationships and budgets with external counsel as required.

  • Advise and assist on ad hoc projects and issues as they arise. 

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified lawyer, Minimum of 8 years’ PQE

  • Experience in a regulated Financial Services environment required including relevant FCA  requirements. 

  • Experience in a FinTech regulatory environment and across a variety of financial products (particularly payment products), is highly advantageous. 

  • Proven ability to build relationships with, and successfully influence,  internal stakeholders across various departments.

  • Proven record providing concise, pragmatic advice to senior management.

  • Proven ability to successfully drive and promote a culture of compliance and legal excellence within an organisation 

  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral.

  • Proven experience liaising with supervisory/regulatory authorities.

  • Demonstrated capability to support multiple business units and provide legal advice regarding transactional, project-based and other ad-hoc legal and regulatory issues within a fast-paced environment 

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively track external legislative and regulatory trends, Codes of Best Practice and other requirements which are relevant and necessary to ensure ongoing compliance and the ability to  respond to any relevant legislative and regulatory changes. 

  • Proven ability to operate independently and autonomously across a wide range of projects.
